China has recently discovered copper resources totaling over 20 million metric tons on the Qinghai-Xizang Plateau, marking a significant advancement in mineral exploration, as announced by the China Geological Survey, part of the Ministry of Natural Resources, on Monday.
A report from CCTV News revealed that four copper deposits capable of producing tens of millions of tons have been located on the plateau. The total potential of these four deposits is estimated at 150 million metric tons, suggesting that the plateau could become a leading global copper resource hub.

Tang highlighted that expanding exploration and increasing the reserves of these copper mines are pivotal for establishing critical resource bases in China, bolstering the security of the nation’s copper industry and supply chains.
Moving forward, the China Geological Survey under the Ministry of Natural Resources aims to enhance baseline geological surveys of mineral resources.
The report also notes that the Duobaoshan Copper Mine in the northeastern Heilongjiang province has increased its copper resource by 3.65 million tons, thereby significantly boosting China’s copper resource security.
